Equitable Treatment for All: Welcoming all clients and/or customers in a respectful manner.If a concern is expressed regarding a lack of respectful treatment, employers and staff take steps to address it.
An Immediate Safe Place: for someone experiencing discrimination in or near the worksite which may include a place to sit, a glass of water, a phone to use, and access to a list of resources.
Prepared Employees and Worksites: Preparing all staff to implement these commitments.
Safe Harbour Locations offer immediate and temporary safe refuge from mistreatment. Staff are also prepared to respond to discrimination. Please see Anti-Discrimination Responses for more details.
Each Safe Harbour displays the colourful window decal, a certificate, and signage that proudly announces to their community that management and staff welcome and support newcomers and diverse community members.
Safe Harbour-certified locations model diversity by promoting the three Safe Harbour commitments to their customers/clients, community members, and neighbouring storefronts. By discussing these principles openly, Safe Harbour-certified locations are prepared to take immediate steps to offer safe refuge to someone facing discrimination, as well as to respond to discriminatory remarks and actions within the workplace.
